It does make use of Amibroker extensively and to derive any significant benefit one should have the software. All of the code used in the book is available for download and is worth as much or more than the book.
Dr. Bandy does a great job in describing what a trading system is, what is required, the pitfalls, how to measure the success of one. He also talks about the various types of trading systems like Trending systems, Mean Reversion systems, Seasonality systems, and Pattern systems.
Even though I am not yet building a mechanical trading system this book has helped me develop code that allows me to run statistical and pattern analysis on the markets and on sectors.
